Dear Friends of Sojourn Center,
The Town of Blacksburg will receive about $13 million of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and is seeking input from citizens about their preferences for spending these funds. The Town’s governmental departments have submitted many proposals for this money, and additionally, non-profit agencies were invited to apply. Sojourn Center submitted a proposal for $1 million (proposal attached) in January. While this is a big ask, we know you and Sojourn Center are passionate about our region’s need for the benefits of a hospice house.
An effective way to help Sojourn Center is to write an email or letter of support to Matt Hanratty, Assistant to Blacksburg Town Manager. His contact information is:
Email: Matt Hanratty mhanratty@blacksburg.gov
Mail: Matt Hanratty, Assistant to the Town Manager, 300 S. Main Street Blacksburg, VA 24060
Please briefly express why you support Sojourn Center for hospice care as an important and necessary medical service facility for the citizens of the New River Valley and beyond. If you have personal experiences with end-of-life care, hospice houses or professional ties for why a hospice house needs to be built on Sojourn Center‘s 27-acres of property in Blacksburg, please tell Matt and the ARPA committee about these experiences as well. Your email or letter needs to be received by March 1, 2022.
The town manager’s office has formed an interdepartmental ARPA Committee to review the project ideas and community’s input. The ARPA Committee will prioritize the project ideas and prepare a report with recommendations for the Town Council in April.
Thank you for your continuing and important support. We appreciate your regular generosity to Sojourn Center.
Anne J. Campbell, President
Sojourn Center Board of Directors
