Sojourn Center has big news to share!
On May 22, 2017 Sojourn Center received a generous donation of 27-acres of land from Roger Woody of Christiansburg. The land, which is located off of Farmview Drive in Blacksburg, is largely wooded with a central clearing that would be ideal for a hospice house. The land is located between LewisGale-Montgomery Hospital and Warm Hearth Village and is close to the 460 Bypass and South Main Street interchange.
An upcoming Roanoke Times article about hospice, hospice houses and the donation is scheduled for release within the next 10 days. On May 24, Sojourn Center hosted an informational meeting for the neighbors surrounding the property and we are off to a positive relationship of working together for this important goal for the New River Valley.
This donation of land from Mr. Woody is a significant step for Sojourn Center. We have an excellent 16-member board of directors (see attachment) and are actively seeking partnerships with other community individuals, agencies and resources. We are developing relationships with hospice agencies in an effort to recruit the hospice house operator. We have a strong relationship with architect, Tom Mullinax, who has designed over 50 hospice house projects in the United States and co-authored the hospice house guidelines. We are redesigning our website and plan to begin utilizing other social media. We will begin planning for a capital campaign over the next months.
